Seasonal Naturalist
As a seasonal naturalist, I was responsible for maneuvering a 90-foot, 3-car tram through the 435-acre free-roam enclosure while interpreting the natural history and conservation stories of native Pacific Northwest wildlife and current environmental challenges for groups of eighty visitors. I also managed the tour station by coordinating ticket taking, line formation, and boarding of trams to ensure adherence to the tight tour schedule - this often meant quick problem-solving, de-escalating visitor complaints, finding compromises, and practicing decisive action. When not working in the free-roam enclosure, I facilitated visitor engagement with topics of evolution, natural history, and conservation through the presentation of themed “discovery” and “conservation” carts featuring bio-facts. I also engaged with visitors at carnivore and omnivore enclosures to answer questions and encourage conversation about larger environmental issues and biological topics.
